Master Site Plans
The new School of Medicine site plan includes three key components:
A Front Door: A distinctive address for the School,
which will be created by a new entry lawn and plaza situated in
front of The Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge. Critical to accomplishing
this goal is the creation of a central School of Medicine loading
dock and the extension of the tunnel system so that receiving and
delivery to the School can occur below grade.
An Academic Core: A compact and efficient
grouping of new research and education buildings positioned to
provide a solid boundary and cohesive layout reflecting the historic
quads of the main campus. Specific to this master planning
effort has been the location and massing of the new three new Stanford
Institutes of Medicine and the full build out of the west campus
of the School of Medicine. Aesthetic and organizing
elements developed in this planning effort are fully extensible
to the rest of the campus, particularly as the north campus region
(E.D. Stone Complex) is renovated and/or replaced.
An Academic Walk: Located along the east-west
Clark Center axis, this will be the primary organizing element
of the new medical school campus, providing an essential connective
link between buildings, external spaces, and cross campus routes. The
Academic Walk will celebrate the legacy of the School of Medicine
through the insertion of special engraved panels at intervals.
