Landscape and Sitework
An eclectic but consistent “kit” of predictable landscape
experiences will be created as a part of the Connective Elements
project. The architects, landscape architects,
engineers, and users will together program and design landscape
features that are pleasant, practical and reflective of the overall
character of the Medical School campus. The open spaces will
offer places for people to interact and play a key role in unifying
the campus. A wide range of experiences will be offered including
active recreation at the front lawn, impromptu conversations outside
buildings along the Palm Walk and Allee, quiet solitude in smaller,
peaceful spaces in the institute building gardens. Landscape materials
will be drawn from planting palettes that already exist on the
main campus and medical school and are reflective of our local
environment.
The Acadmic Walk forms a central promenade through the School originating
in the Clark Center courtyard and ending at the Welch Plaza gateway
to the campus on Welch Road. Also a piece of artwork, the promenade
will reflect the history and achievements of the School as engraved
panels embedded in the walk.
