Finishing up the MSOB parking lot and beginning the work in Campus Drive

Week of June 25th

The following work will be ongoing this week and next for the Phase 0/1A Utilities Project:

1. Installation of the new high voltage electrical and communication ductbanks on the north side of the PSRL building began this morning. This work will continue to the west side of PSRL and the north side of the MSOB building in the up coming weeks. Note the fencelines will move and the sidewalk along the east end of MSOB will be temporarily closed for a short time.

2. Work on the steam trench along the south side of CCSR will begin again.

3. The sanitary sewer piping in Campus Drive will be installed which will complete the new service to MSOB. Once this last section of piping is installed a tie-in to the new line will be made right outside the southwest corner of MSOB.

4. Now that the traffic detour for Campus Drive is in place over the next few weeks demolition of the existing roadway will begin to prepare the area for the new chilled water piping and steam tunnel.

5. Begining on Monday a series of short domestic water shutdowns will be needed to install new main line valves in Campus Drive and Panama. Pending approval of the shutdown we plan to install one new valve on Monday (6/25) which will turn off service to Cordura and Ventura. On Wed (6/27) service to CCSR will be turned off for a couple of hours early in the morning to install another valve. Another shutdown is scheduled to take place on Wed (6/27) which will turn off service to Birch, Oak, Poplar, Laurel, Juniper, and Acacia on the south side of Campus Dr. The new domestic water tie-in to PSRL is being scheduled.

6. Related to the construction the first round of tunnel clearance is happening this week. We have unlocked the few remaining locked cabinets and boxed the items in place. If you had items that were stored in a locked cabinet (and had not contacted me by Friday the 22nd) please identify and relocate the boxes. The file and storage cabinets that were to be scrapped are being unstrapped from the walls, disassembled and removed from the tunnels today through Wednesday. As we get closer to the deadline for completely clearing the tunnels, it is important that every lab contribute to the project by consolidating the specimens in freezers wherever possible. Please see Don Rust (5-7525) in Health and Safety if you are considering storing your freezers offsite and you will be assisted with the process.

Freezers are expensive to run and expensive to store -- help us be smart about how we use this resource!

Finally, the Li Ka Shing Center website (http://lkc.stanford.edu/) is being upgraded and should hopefully be completely updated by the end of the week.
