The following work will be ongoing the weeks of 3/10 and 3/17 for the Loading Dock & Tunnel Project, the Utilities 1B, the Li Ka Shing Center and the Li Ka Shing Center Stair projects:
Tunnel
Walls for the tunnel are complete and NIBBI Concrete has started working on forming and placing rebar for the top-slab of the tunnel.
Concrete placement of the tunnel top-slab will be broken into three (3) sections. The first concrete pour is scheduled for March 17, 2008 and the final two (2) concrete pours are scheduled for March 20, 2008.
Top-slab of the tunnel will be complete by March 20, 2008.
Receiving Dock
NIBBI Concrete started installing the rebar for the footings. Alliance Roofing will coordinate and install the sub-drains through the footings and underground plumbing and electrical will begin.
Underground electrical and plumbing will begin once the placement of concrete for the footings and piers are complete on March 17, 2008.
Waterproofing of the Receiving Dock walls is in progress and scheduled to be complete by March 13, 2008.
Loading Dock
Final excavation of the Loading Dock will be complete by the end of the week of March 17, 2008.
Malcolm Drilling will be complete with all tiebacks and shotcrete of the Permanent Shoring System by March 19, 2008.
A stair tower is going to be installed on Thursday, March 13, 2008, for access down in to the Loading Dock.
Utilities Phase 1B
There will be a Fairchild shutdown/power switchover, Monday 3/17 - 1 hour shutdown at 8AM for temporary generator.hook-up and a 1 hour shutdown at 2PM for normal power switchover. The temporary generator will be running for approximately 6 hours.
The Beckman emergency generator will be picked up on Wednesday 3/12 from its current pad.
The Beckman emergency generator ductbank re-route and new generator/transformer pads will be installed over the next two weeks. The Beckman generator should be reinstalled in its new location by the end of the month.

Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge
Start drilling and installing the soldier piles for the shoring system on 3/17.
Start mass excavation for the Li Ka Shing Center building on 3/24.
Long Term Forecast Items
The relocation of the RAF Ramp should start in early April.
The re-alignment of Campus Drive to make way for SIM1 and the new RAF ramp should start in June/July.
SIM 1 should start in July. . . Chris Shay is the SoM Facilities point of contact for SIM1.
Thank you all for hanging in during the closure of the L-15 Parking Lot. The reason that it looks sort of empty now is due to the setback in starting the Li Ka Shing Center associated with re-routing the high-volt power for Beckman and Fairchild Science. After a number of solutions were tested, I think that we have a plan now to complete the re-route and will begin working on the Li Ka Shing Center in earnest next week. Once the excavation begins, the parking lot will be filled with trucks hauling dirt as well as delivery vehicles.
Additionally, if you are having trouble with the new parking situation and you are disabled, please let your lab manager know and they will be in touch with me.
We are making progress together!
These are photographs taken at the construction site of the new Loading Dock and the new tunnel connecting the Loading Dock to the remainder of the tunnel system. The photos of the tunnel show the rebar cage that will hold the concrete roof of the tunnel. The photos of the Loading Dock show an enourmous hole - the extensive waterproofing on the walls of the dock and the early forms under the receiving dock in which the structural columns will be built.
