Construction Activities - 9/8 thru 9/26/08

We continue to make progress on the erection of the steel at the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge - we are up to the fourth floor! Soon we will see the erection of the steel for the cantilever section of the red roof - ought to be interesting and somewhat nerve wracking to watch! The "hole" at SIM1 is getting more defined - the elevator pits excavated, some of the walls sprayed with shotcrete, the footings excavated and the footing rebar installed. Soon the last ramp down into the SIM1 hole will be removed and the spraying of shotcrete on the walls will be finished. The Loading Dock is virtually complete, we are painting, finishing the canopy, modifying the parapet wall and the storm drainage system and finishing the interiors. Sometime in late October or November we will try to offer a couple of public tours of the Loading Dock. . . . keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of the dates and times. While it is not immediately visible to everyone, the relocation of the RAF ramp has been a very complicated project that is making excellent progress and must be completed and opened before the "front door" landscape, sidewalks, parking lot, and entry way can be constructed.

We began construction of the new bicycle parking areas west of the Clark Center this week -- and apologize for all of the jackhammering that was required to remove the old concrete. There has also come been another change to the parking lot and delivery and circulation routes. Just to reduce any confusion about both this change and future changes to the site we have posted the new Site Logistics Plan and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Circulation Plan (will be posted this week) to the LKSC website ( http://lksc.stanford.edu/) and have attached them to this e-mail for your use and distribution. Safety is key so the best suggestion is just stay out of the construction site entirely if you can and when you are moving about the perimeter of the site, be cognizant of those moving about around you.

For your information, please find below summary bullet points of the construction activities that will take place on all of the jobs from September 8th until September 26th. If you need a more precise date for any specific activity please feel free to call me.
